    Decision support system for form verification of manufactured parts.

    The form verification of manufactured parts is a process composed of a set of operations that are expensive and yet add no value to the product. Yet, the resources used to inspect the parts add a small but significant amount of noise that can affect the outcome of the process. For this reason, this research provides guidelines to effectively perform the inspection process by suggesting new mathematical models and approaches that can be used for the creation of a decision support system that can assist in the verification of the accuracy of machined parts.This research proposes two approaches to improve the robustness of the mathematical models from the noise induced by the inspection process. The Dynamic Angle Approach (DAA) and the Free Form Orientation approach (FFO) presented here focus on finding the parameters of the axes and origin of the form that counteract the inaccuracies of the inspection equipment.In summary, this research suggests formalized methods for feature extraction, sampling, path planning, and form fitting, although the last mentioned received the most attention. It is believed that this comprehensive, integrated analysis will lead to the development of a decision support system.The proposed approaches and mathematical models were verified using measurements from features that were perfectly aligned with the coordinate system of the inspection equipment and from features that were intentionally misaligned. The results showed that the models were accurate and robust enough to estimate the parameters and zone of error of the form features and they performed better than existing models.The main goal of this research is to develop procedures that are simple to implement but at the same time are robust enough to provide reliable information that help the metrologist to make accurate decisions about the inspected parts. Form features such as spheres, cylinders, cones, frustums, and torus forms are commonly used to design complex parts. However, the procedures to verify most of these form features have not been developed yet by the national standards.     Design of an automated system for the production of chicha de Jora

    This research presents the design and control of the fermentation, boiling, and straining process of chicha de Jora with mechatronic systems. In this work, process control is developed in the 2 tanks to monitor the procedure to optimize the resources and time of the elaboration. The development of the project shows that the application of 2 solenoid valves and sensors such as level and temperature sensors are feasible for better control of the boiling process. A mixer was also added to the first tank to ensure that the essence of the inputs remains in the liquid. In addition, it is possible to visualize an optimal operation of the system, including PLC programming as it makes the operation more autonomous, managing to accelerate the fermentation process and to be adequate according to the degree of alcohol required. The value obtained from the motor to drive the 6-blade mixer is 17,384 watts taking as a parameter the viscosity, the power number, and the appropriate rotation speed. The implemented control will help to accelerate the process of obtaining chicha de Jora and to monitor the degree of alcohol produced in the fermentation process

    Design of haptic vibrational feedback control in upper extremity myoelectric prostheses

    Current prosthesis systems use haptic technology, have a brain-machine interaction that is dependent on visual feedback from the user, also have limitations by the details of the sense of touch both textures, roughness, weights, and contact forces applied. This research shows the development and implementation of haptic technology in a myoelectric prosthesis of the upper extremity, to simulate the sense of touch in the claw of the prosthesis to obtain a better control in the grip force taking as parameter the reaction and efficiency that the device has in different conditions for the patient to have an improvement in the feedback and the grip force of the prosthesis. For the development of the investigation, the VDI2206 methodology was used, simulating each part of the myoelectric prosthesis in different software for an improvement in the process of signal interpretation. Also by diagramming the motor execution process it facilitates the interpretation of the design. The results of the investigation show an alternative model of the conventional ones contributing with improvements in the signals received by the haptic prosthesis and better ergonomics, in addition, the perceived signals showed a better subjection and sensitivity. From the presented design it is desired to replicate to future research since the presented model can be taken as research material

    En ocho capítulos se aborda el estado del arte de la vid silvestre en MéxicoEl estudio de las especies vegetales nativas de México representa un reto que cada día más investigadores mexicanos asumen. Durante muchos años, el apoyo a la investigación pública ha sido mínimo; desde el punto de vista agronómico es insuficiente para avanzar a la velocidad que requiere nuestro país para afrontar problemas de producción y distribución de alimentos. Por esa razón, entre otras, me es grato presentar esta obra que compila parte de los trabajos de la Red de Vid Silvestre patrocinada por el Sistema Nacional de Recursos Fitogenéticos (sinarefi) dependiente de la sagarpa; trabajos apuntalados por investigadores que sin pertenecer a la red han colaborado en el estudio de las plantas del género Vitis. En este libro se muestra el potencial del país para aprovechar el recurso vid, empleado desde antes de la conquista española por nativos mexicanos que conocían sus bondades. Es necesario continuar el avance en el conocimiento de este recurso, por ello el presente libro pretende invitar a toda persona interesada en contribuir con el rescate y conservación de las vides mexicanas.     Comprehensive description of clinical characteristics of a large systemic Lupus Erythematosus Cohort from the Spanish Rheumatology Society Lupus Registry (RELESSER) with emphasis on complete versus incomplete lupus differences

    Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by multiple organ involvement and pronounced racial and ethnic heterogeneity. The aims of the present work were (1) to describe the cumulative clinical characteristics of those patients included in the Spanish Rheumatology Society SLE Registry (RELESSER), focusing on the differences between patients who fulfilled the 1997 ACR-SLE criteria versus those with less than 4 criteria (hereafter designated as incomplete SLE (iSLE)) and (2) to compare SLE patient characteristics with those documented in other multicentric SLE registries. RELESSER is a multicenter hospital-based registry, with a collection of data from a large, representative sample of adult patients with SLE (1997 ACR criteria) seen at Spanish rheumatology departments. The registry includes demographic data, comprehensive descriptions of clinical manifestations, as well as information about disease activity and severity, cumulative damage, comorbidities, treatments and mortality, using variables with highly standardized definitions. A total of 4.024 SLE patients (91% with ≥4 ACR criteria) were included. Ninety percent were women with a mean age at diagnosis of 35.4 years and a median duration of disease of 11.0 years. As expected, most SLE manifestations were more frequent in SLE patients than in iSLE ones and every one of the ACR criteria was also associated with SLE condition; this was particularly true of malar rash, oral ulcers and renal disorder. The analysis-adjusted by gender, age at diagnosis, and disease duration-revealed that higher disease activity, damage and SLE severity index are associated with SLE [OR: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.08-1.20 (P < 0.001); 1.29; 95% CI: 1.15-1.44 (P < 0.001); and 2.10; 95% CI: 1.83-2.42 (P < 0.001), respectively]. These results support the hypothesis that iSLE behaves as a relative stable and mild disease. SLE patients from the RELESSER register do not appear to differ substantially from other Caucasian populations and although activity [median SELENA-SLEDA: 2 (IQ: 0-4)], damage [median SLICC/ACR/DI: 1 (IQ: 0-2)], and severity [median KATZ index: 2 (IQ: 1-3)] scores were low, 1 of every 4 deaths was due to SLE activity. RELESSER represents the largest European SLE registry established to date, providing comprehensive, reliable and updated information on SLE in the southern European population

    Evaluación de extractos vegetales para manejo de quemaduras cáusticas: irritación/corrosión dérmica aguda. Bogotá/2018

    Introducción: Aunque las quemaduras cáusticas representan un bajo porcentaje de las quemaduras, dadas las complicaciones que asocian, son un problema de salud pública que exige nuevas opciones terapéuticas como son el uso de productos derivados de plantas, entre ellos, Caléndula offinalis, Aloe vera y  Cannabis sativa, cuyo uso está condicionado, inicialmente a pruebas como la evaluación de su efecto irritativo/corrosivo agudo en piel. Materiales y métodos: Estudio experimental en animales, aleatorizado. El material vegetal se obtuvo del Jardín Medicinal Jorge Piñeros Corpas; los aceites y extractos de las plantas se obtuvieron por métodos clásicos de extracción; la base de excipientes fue provista por el Laboratorio de Farmacología Vegetal (LABFARVE). Se emplearon 8 Ratas wistar macho alojadas bajo condiciones controladas y parámetros de ética y bienestar animal. La prueba de irritación/corrosión dérmica aguda se hizo siguiendo la norma OECD 404, tras previa anestesia de los animales y siguiendo los criterios de dolor y punto final. Resultados: De Caléndula officinalis se obtuvieron dos  aceites esenciales y tres extractos; el gel de Aloe vera y un extracto de Cannabis sativa. Ninguno de los extractos generó escara, eritema o edema en los animales, siendo negativa la prueba de irritación/corrosión aguda en piel. Discusión: Los resultados obtenidos desde esta investigación básica en medicina traslacional, brindan evidencia que complementa la información reportada en la literatura acerca del uso tradicional y los estudios in vitro e in vivo de estas plantas para el manejo de diversas enfermedades. La ausencia de efecto irritativo o corrosivo en piel es coherente con el conocimiento del tipo de metabolitos secundarios activos que se han identificado en ellas con actividad antiinflamatoria, antioxidante, antimicrobiana y cicatrizante. Los resultados aseguran su inocuidad química al contemplarlas para investigar su potencial uso terapéutico en lesiones dérmicas, tipo quemaduras cáusticas, garantizando su seguridad

    The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V.Comment: SDSS-IV collaboration alphabetical author data release paper.     Compromising between European and US allergen immunotherapy schools: Discussions from GUIMIT, the Mexican immunotherapy guidelines

    Background: Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) has a longstanding history and still remains the only disease-changing treatment for allergic rhinitis and asthma. Over the years 2 different schools have developed their strategies: the United States (US) and the European. Allergen extracts available in these regions are adapted to local practice. In other parts of the world, extracts from both regions and local ones are commercialized, as in Mexico. Here, local experts developed a national AIT guideline (GUIMIT 2019) searching for compromises between both schools. Methods: Using ADAPTE methodology for transculturizing guidelines and AGREE-II for evaluating guideline quality, GUIMIT selected 3 high-quality Main Reference Guidelines (MRGs): the European Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (EAACI) guideines, the S2k guideline of various German-speaking medical societies (2014), and the US Practice Parameters on Allergen Immunotherapy 2011. We formulated clinical questions and based responses on the fused evidence available in the MRGs, combined with local possibilities, patient's preference, and costs. We came across several issues on which the MRGs disagreed. These are presented here along with arguments of GUIMIT members to resolve them. GUIMIT (for a complete English version, see Supplementary data) concluded the following: Results: Related to the diagnosis of IgE-mediated respiratory allergy, apart from skin prick testing complementary tests (challenges, in vitro testing and molecular such as species-specific allergens) might be useful in selected cases to inform AIT composition. AIT is indicated in allergic rhinitis and suggested in allergic asthma (once controlled) and IgE-mediated atopic dermatitis. Concerning the correct subcutaneous AIT dose for compounding vials according to the US school: dosing tables and formula are given; up to 4 non-related allergens can be mixed, refraining from mixing high with low protease extracts. When using European extracts: the manufacturer's indications should be followed; in multi-allergic patients 2 simultaneous injections can be given (100% consensus); mixing is discouraged. In Mexico only allergoid tablets are available; based on doses used in all sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) publications referenced in MRGs, GUIMIT suggests a probable effective dose related to subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) might be: 50–200% of the monthly SCIT dose given daily, maximum mixing 4 allergens. Also, a table with practical suggestions on non-evidence-existing issues, developed with a simplified Delphi method, is added. Finally, dissemination and implementation of guidelines is briefly discussed, explaining how we used online tools for this in Mexico. Conclusions: Countries where European and American AIT extracts are available should adjust AIT according to which school is followed
